Bush camping at Rivierzicht Resort in Robertson

The Rivierzicht bush camps are situated right there on the banks of the Breede River in the Robertson valley.  Imagine waking up to the sound of fish jumping out of the water, reeds rustling in the gentle breeze and birds chirping. Yep, that’s what you get when you stay at one of the bush camps on the Rivierzicht resort. A canoeist paddling on the Breede River The Breede River The Breede River, about 322km long, starts high up in the Ceres mountains, then snakes its way to the Indian ocean at Witsands. It is the longest navigable river in the Western Cape. There are three dams on the river, the Theewaterskloof Dam, the Brandvlei Dam and the Kwaggaskloof Dam. The Theewaterskloof Dam is one of the major Dams that supply Cape Town with water. Accommodation options at Rivierzicht The Riverzicht resort has three types of accommodation. Basil and I had a fantastic breakaway at the Caledon Spa hotel. It has always been his desire to visit the Caledon Spa as a guest and not as a visitor to the casino. So, luckily for us, the Caledon's Spa Midweek special was on and off we went to the Overberg. The Caledon Hotel, Spa and Casino trio meet the needs of most of local tourists or the stay-vacationers as I believe, we are called nowadays. Midweek breakaways are fantastic because these are the added treats: You get value for money because the same holiday could cost you twice as much. There are fewer people so the the atmosphere is more chilled and you can pretend the place belongs to you! Guests become familiar faces and you will find yourself greeting one another wherever you meet up. You may also meet interesting folk during your time there. Now on to the Caledon ...

Camping at Goudini

Our Camping den at Goudini Spa Campa-logue at Goudini 23 June Finally, we have arrived at our destination, Goudini Spa, in the heart of the Breede Valley. We are on Camp for the next week. Stunning weather  and perfect for camping. We know we are going to experience all the seasons in this short week, but what the heck??  We set the scene with a solid campfire, sausage and chicken braai with a Chinese dominoes league game. But for now, after 2 hours at the indoor pool and a chicken sarmie to keep the metabolism running, I am ready to soak up Achebe’s Arrow of God – second reading especially brought along to tackle while in the outdoors.
